Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

No, but I yelled at him. He had his window open, so at least he heard it.

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

Maen mint!

I had a lovely day yesterday. Brother got married, and had a wonderful day. My mom's cakes were a huge success (and there was enough for at least 200 people). The ceremony was nice, my little (1 year old) nephew actually managed to bring the rings to the right people, dinner was wonderful and the party was loud. We dropped the newlyweds of at their hotel around one thirty. And then we went to our own hotel and crashed. Sadly I didn't sleep well and am now utterly exhausted.

Gmaen mint! *raises from the dust waves to everybody*

This sounds like a very lovely wedding, Sahi! To make cakes for over 200 people sounds like a BIG achievement to me. I'm utterly in awe (^____^)

*waves at everyone*

We discovered there was a book sale at the library near LG's place today so we both bought a stack of books. (And there's another one in Linz that we want to go to tomorrow.)

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

Oh, I went to a library a week ago, but they didn't have a sale. Nor did they have any Tad books, so I left again. It was kinda pretty though...

well, this libary looks very pretty indeed. But I bet the libarians were as scary as dragons ;-)

And I totally could imagine an illustrated Tad book in this showcase...

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

They did have some giant volumes. Actually a lot of them. Probably not containing all that many words, or possibly just ledgers or something, but they looked huge and heavy (one of the non-blurry pictures shows them).

And they had a book on plants, so I made a picture for Magpie.

And yes, that's obviously the state hall of the Austrian National Library. Tad might not be a young dog anymore, but he's hundreds of years too young to show up there...

Do you play or intend to play the game? IIRC you did not play all of the ME games?
I got it as a birthday present and have installed it, but haven't played yet.

The initial scenes run well enough on my hardware, but that may change as I get further into the game (planetside the game will be more demanding, I think).

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

well, I didn't play any of the ME games since I'm not good with shooters and action oriented games - they stress me out. However, I'm considering giving ME:A a try. I guess I will wait a bit longer until I have more time at my hands - unless some DLC will tear my resistance ;-)

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

None of the ME games are super hard or very action heavy. The first game can be kind of difficult, but I don't remember if there are difficulty settings. I have converted "I don't play FPS games" into "I love Mass Effect" players before :D

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

tempting, tempting...:-)
And I really liked the characters - the party banters were hilarious *snickers*.  So maybe there won't be much more persuasion needed *g*

However, I doubt my computer will stand the challenge (the poor baby is 7 by now) so I would need to go for the PS4 version. Unfortuantely I had to spend my allowance this month for other stuff, but hey, the month is almost over and the salary check is coming *g*

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

Yeah, a 7 year old high end CPU might still barely handle games (That would be a quad core Nehalem, I guess? Pretty close call... Sandy bridge can still handle nearly everything.), but there's no way a 7 year old video card handles anything but ME and ME2. Even ME3 is probably too much.

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

well, the poor thing is certainly feels it's years *pads little computer*. However it is still holding up to the art related tasks given to it so I'm reluctant to replace it. And calculating costs for 'mission new house' all the time in the back of my head adds to it.

But the PS4 version should be fine - hopefully there won't be any nice mods for this game. Otherwise I might still find an excuse to get a new computer :-)

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

1997 wasn't a good year for me, either. My mother had passed away NYE '96, and I was staying with my grandparents, so I didn't hear about it until New Year's Day. So that and the next few years were a rough adjustment period for me...

Ok enough depressing talk! I think I accidentally hooked my husband on Babylon 5. There's a streaming site, go90, that somehow magically acquired the rights to stream it, for free! So I'm all nostalgically watching it, and he plops down to just snuggle on the couch with me. He wasn't super interested in the 1st season, but something dragged him in around the middle of season 2. So now I'm not allowed to watch it without him, lol. Even though he keeps making silly comments, because look, most sci-fi shows have some ridiculous parts to them, and CGI in the 90s was NOT very good. I was very happy he laughed at my favorite line: "Time is infinite. You are finite. Zathras is finite. This... Is wrong tool."

I didn't know your mom had passed on, Ad1tu. You were very young in 1997. :(

Don't you love it when you hook someone else on a show unintentionally? I had the same experience with GOT. Binge-watching can be pretty addicting...

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

I think I've mentioned it before, but perhaps not. It's one of those things that is weird to bring up. I mean, I'm much better about talking about it than I used to be, but it's usually not something that ever gets brought up. Except here apparently :p
In case anyone is curious, my mom died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. It's also why I can't donate blood.
