Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

This Mint is a little different from the rest. For one thing, you'll need to burn it pretty hot to avoid toxic fumes. For another, it is adorned with lots of little decorations. There is also a weird sense of meltiness and low definition to all of the corners. And then the realisation hits you: It has been 3D printed - in green plastic.

Move carefully, I am not sure the stability of anything in here is up to scratch...

I have to agree, that doesn't sound very comfy.
Not so sure about the furniture in here either.
All those little grooves and ridges and the silly ornamentation...

This place appears to have been 3D printed with a defective 3D printer... we'll need Pandy to sort it out!

If you didn't push the old Mint to 26 pages, thereby dooming us all, I'd almost be sorry :D

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

HAHAHAHA oh boy. Believe it or not, 3d printed items are very sturdy.

I hop eit isn't made with PLA because the first time it rains, it's going to get a little slimy.

But on the plus side, it's biodegradable, so no need to burn it when we leave.

3d printing is interesting, because it is an art form.

When this print job finishes, i will post a photo.

Man, for a place this big to be printed, it must have been started a few years ago.

It has been printing while we were Minting...

No need to apologize; I liked 1997.

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

I graduated from high school in 97. I guess that makes it a pretty decent year for me.

No, that is made with a different, somewhat expensive filament.

I also have wood filament.

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

1997 was the year I thought I had lost my best friend for good. We had no more common ground after she became a mother in October '96. I was so utterly unhappy that year. Luckily in September we regained our friendship and it was never endangered again. Her son is 20 now and would be the perfect cast for Simon.
Those who come to the Kasselmoot in October will prolly meet him at the reading. You'll see.

I started secondary school that year, with a bunch of stupid bullies. So not a good year for me. Except for the one time early on when one of them said something that I can't even remember and I turned around and hit him in the face with my gym bag.
(He was friends with one of the boys who had bullied me in primary school, and who had only stopped when I got in a fist fight with him. Gym-bag-in-face boy left me alone for a while after that, until another boy started bullying me again, and that one was too big for me to hit him and put a stop to that.)

Re: QM - Made of Plastic (it's fantastic)

So 1997 was terrible for some, good for others. 1998 was bad for me (also: 1985-1993, for the same reason as Magpie: bullying), but I have fond, fond memories of 1996 and 1997.

*waves maen to ylvs*
Yay for 98!

For me 98 was a crap year. I dropped my math/physics studies at the uni, took a job at telemarketing, which sucked. I was getting to know people online for the first time though. #middle-earth on EFnet/IRC.

Ah yes, just the way I wanted to start my weekend, almost getting run over by a car. I mean, there only is a stop sign and a sign that says "watch out for cyclists" at that intersection, so really, why would I expect him to look both ways or anything?
