Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: Kassel Moot with Tad reading 17/10/13

I see you booked a hotel on the 13th. The thread title still says 17th. Good that I checked on the Klett-Cotta website: The 13th is correct.

So you both are staying only the one night? That seems short for a moot...

xavie, the thread is headed the American way: year/month/day. Sorry for confuzzling you.
I  can't offer anymore company after the 13th as I am heading for the 60th birthday of a cousin in Munich on Saturday. You could come early and stay with us until Friday (then Dog&Deb will be at our place.)

It does indeed seem short, given the travel time. I have not booked yet and am willing to stay longer.
Has anyone else booked anything yet?

YYMMDD is international, I think, MMDDYY is American.

Yes, MMDDYY is American. It's stupid and makes no sense.

I would be up for staying for the rest of the weekend. Will have to check with Herr Journeyman, but I'm sure he can be convinced.

Ylvs, thanks for the offer! We have much to figure out yet though :)

Re: Kassel Moot with Tad reading 17/10/13

I haven't really discussed it with Aan yet, but we agreed that we would want to take it slowly (we're also planning to visit friends and family all over the country and want to have at least two nights at one place before we have to travel on. So I think 13th to 15th would be good for us, too.

Does it take longer than expected?
Trains seem fairly expensive unless you have a Bahncard or something.

I don't. And yes. And yes, some take 11 hours, can you believe that? the short ones 8!. There are exceptions, though, bus-wise - and, I am on it this moment, DB seems to actually have several quite fine connections for just 30 bucks, around three hours, ICE with one ... thingy... Umsteigen ... or IC without ... I'm still sceptical! But that I can afford, my Gran always gives me something for about 60 to 80 euro for birthday and christmas, :) and then often throws another fourty when christmas actually comes. I have 23. September, so that fits perfectly. And if I really can sleep at Ylva's ...

the more expensive ones are for if you wanna be able to spontaneously swap and choose. I don't need that.

Those are fine, right? I don't mind being early.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but I am hardly an expert on trains, much less DB. The German residents might be more knowledgable?

Re: Kassel Moot with Tad reading 17/10/13

Since the reading itself is happening on the 13th, I do not know how early everyone needs to arrive? I am sure this is fine for the reading, but I don't know the rest of the timetable.

Ylvs? What are the plans for hanging out with Tad? After the reading or in the afternoon?

Re: Kassel Moot with Tad reading 17/10/13

from what I can see the more expensive ones 'ICE' while the 'cheaper' one is an IC. It takes 15 minutes longer but it is a direct connection, therefore it shouldn't be a problem.

ICE are always stuffed on Fridays, thus I guess the DB wants to encourage people to take the IC instead and offer cheaper prices....
