Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

Re: Castlefest 2017

So.  Last weekend, redNat and I were trying to work out the best trip planning for Worldcon Helsinki.  Turns out that there is NO WAY to fly direct from SFO to HEL, all flights stop somewhere in Europe.  And this breaks my rule: if I can't fly there non-stop from SFO, I'm not going there.

However.

Looking at our flight choices, I got to thinking....  one of the intermediate points is AMS.  So.  Can we stop there?  Like, a week ahead?  Then we can go to Castlefest also?

That be the plan now.

Re: Castlefest 2017

That would be awesome! We'd have a traveling Smarch moot! Eva is coming over too. Maybe we should do a Skype session soon to synch our flights (I haven't booked mine yet).

And if you want you can stay over at my place. It would be a bit crowded, and I'd have to arrange for an extra air mattress, but it would save you gals a bunch of money... My time off from work starts on Friday the 4th of August.

Re: Castlefest 2017

Will have to start planning/working on my elements/shinies costume soon - as soon as I'm completely done with the Meisterarbeit.

LG and my best friend want to come to Castlefest too, so our current plan is that the three of us and best friend's boyfriend will borrow LG's father's camper and drive up together, and they'll just have to go home without me while I go to Worldcon.

Although it remains to be seen if that will work out as planned, because LG will probably start a new job soon, so we'll have to see if he can get the time off. And if Squirrel staying with his grandma for a few days will work.

Also, yay for cyan and RedNat at Castlefest!

Hmm, I'm not sure I have room for six people (assuming Libra is coming too)...

And mostly, I only have space in the car for four people (besides myself).

I will probably be staying at my mum and dad's before Castlefest, and will drive with Ruben (who has already purchased my ticket!!), so don't worry.... If it gets too cramped, me and Ruben can also see if we can get a hotel somewhere near....

Re: Castlefest 2017

Well, I have two potential guest rooms, an air mattress for two people and a regular mattress (on the floor) for one, and four spaces in the car.

Re: Castlefest 2017

Okay costume 1 has been (is being) acquired.... I decide against trying to make it myself, because I cannot guarantee when I will have an actual house (and so table) in which I can do this.... and if I am making a costume myself, I would rather do the Tad one, cause now way I can make two....

So got my friend technodolly (look her up on Etsy... AMAZING) to make me a maroon and red floor-length skirt, got accessories and will make a firey belt with different colour flames...

Still no idea with regards to Tad costume.... it's looking more and more like me in cool t-shirt with log....

But I'll just do another character/iconic places search....

I'm still not sure which element I'm going to be. (Mostly because I forgot who else were joining us and which element they chose.)

Re: Castlefest 2017

I still haven't started on my costume, but I'm planning to be water (because I always want all the dolphin and seahorse and whatever other water-themed shinies.)

So that leaves air and earth.

I'm thinking of the Uduntree as Tad costume.... however, that would mean all whites..... I'm not very good with all whites....

Yeah, all white, especially at an outdoor thing... seems risky...

You could also do an Order of Song cosplay - you know, like that one norn woman (forgot her name), with dark robes, white make-up and wig and these cool ritual face paintings. :D

...I think I am terrible when it comes to costume ideas. ;P

Re: Castlefest 2017

Last time we talked about it, I remember Libra wanted to be fire because of her hair color, and I think somebody suggested air for one of you blonde ladies. I was thinking of making an earth costume for myself (should probably not wait too long with that). Sahi, if you'd rather be earth, I'd also be fine with air. That would mean that I can recycle my greenangel tower dress.

Re: Castlefest 2017

In that case I'll be earth! I think I have more flower and leaf pretties than feathers.

Re: Castlefest 2017

Okay! That definitely means less work for me, though now I have to start brainstorming again for how to be "airy". The problem with shinies is that you only buy them at castlefest when it's already too late for this year's costume.

Re: Castlefest 2017

I'll be at the Pflasterspektakel a few weeks before, and they always have a lot of shinies - how about I buy a bunch of cheap ones and bring them to CF? And you can either give them back to me or give me the money for them and keep them if you like them?
(And we all bring all the shinies we already have and lend them to the person whose costume they fit best?)

Otherwise, maybe you can find some beautiful feathers or something? I'm definitely planning to put a lot of seashells on my costume, until I get more shinies.

Re: Castlefest 2017

This whole shinies-thing is meant to be extendable later. Just add what you have and think of a way to add more later. And I think the themes are flexible too. Dragons, f.e., can go with all of them.
