Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

*Sploilers* Walker question

Hello, I'm just now reading the first book, ''The Dirty Streets of Heaven'' and I'm loving it as much as other work from Tad.

However, I have a question, maybe it's explained later in the book, but right now it's unclear to me:

If Edward Lynes Walker planned his death and everything, had all those contacts with Habari, had the trips to the Outside, shouldn't his Guardian Angel know about all of that? I mean, isn't the Guardian Angel supposed to follow a person around at all times?

Welcome to the boards, Olo!

(I don't have a good answer for your question. Maybe Tad or another Smarcher does).

Um. I honestly don't know if I just don't remember this or if it never was adressed. This is kind of embarrassing. But apparently my memory for details only works for MST (and Harry Potter).

Re: *Sploilers* Walker question

I suppose he could plan it without it being obvious to someone who is watching...

Re: *Sploilers* Walker question

I suppose, but if the trips to the Outside were legit, the Guardian should have pointed out that Walker already has seen the afterlife previously.. I mean, that's certainly important

Re: *Sploilers* Walker question

Maybe the Third Way people have their means of distracting the guardian angels?  After all, normal angels can't take living humans Outside, either...

Re: *Sploilers* Walker question

Yeah, right, Yurath the Guardian didn't know where he went.

It appears to me that for the Powers That Be up in Heaven, one of their most important tools is the clouding and eventual erasure of memories.  Just spending time in Heaven seems to gradually make Earthly life fade away; and none of the advocates know who they were before their last 20-30 years on Earth.  Presumably whoever Habari actually is, he was able to wipe Yurath's memory of the meetings.

(Trying not to make this statement TOO spoilery...)  There's some clues in HHIH pointing to a particular powerful angel being involved in some kind of shady dealings.  Whether that angel is the leader of the Third Way, the Angel who gave away a feather... I dunno.

You're mixing something up, Auros. We know perfetly well who Habari is by the end of Dirty Streets, Bobby's best pal Sam.
I agree with the rest you said, although I cannot remember that the Guardian said something about a clouded memory ... I seem to have a clouded memory myself, haha.

And Olowokandi?

Oh, right.  I was thinking Habari was Sam's superior in the organization.  It's been a while...
