Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

It's just a void, nothing more.

Minimalism.

Less is more.

Nothing is everything.

Contemplate the power of negative space and the ... pause ... , or the practice of being, not doing.
(And, once you have mastered that, move on to unbeing).

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

Welcome to the Neighborhood, Kenan!

*doesn't bring a housewarming present, because less is more and all that*

Although... if nothing is everything, and I bring nothing, I am bringing aeverything and this is becoming a very crowded void and...

This seems like the sort of topic that would fit right in in Forum 9!

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

Thanks, I'm just trying to figure this place out...

No presents, please! How can one celebrate nothingness or quietude? I don't know.

Bringing everything is just right though, if you bring nothing!

Anyway, what is Forum 9?

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

It is the place that does not exist... one of the strange secrets of Smarch...

*wonders if she should show Kenan the way*
But I think it is so much more fun to stumble across it unexpectedly, the way I did...

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

I remember the first time I stumbled upon it... innocently clicking on a thread in Active Topics... this was back on the old board, and Forum 9 had a different colour scheme to the rest of the board! Little newbie that I was, I could not figure out what was going on!

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

Sounds like fun. I just edited the link adress from another board to number 9 and found it that way, now that you revealed it to me! I've never used the "active topics", so I would probably never have heard of it otherwise.

I think that was how it was originally discovered, in the early days of Smarch - long before my time!

Aha!

They're Black Holes!

Can't have a Void without them! :)

Aha! Black holes are superdense objects and thus are the exact opposite of a void!

The black hole *created* the void, by sucking in everything around it. It is not the void itself, per se.

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

I suppose a void is the perfect place to put a black hole, if you have one and don't know what to do with it. It won't affect anything in here... except, where did all the lights go?

Earth hour was weeks ago, so it cannot be that.

Sorry, no blankets. Or pillows... or beds, or floor for that matter. Oxygen? How are we here? Maybe it's all an illusion.

Re: It's just a void, nothing more.

It's funny, for a while there I could have sworn that the void was not empty, that there was life inside it. But it must have been an illusion. Or maybe I am hallucinating. Maybe I'm going insane...

You can't be going insane.  After all, there's no "you" to "go" anything at all.

But...
Then...
But I am the creator!
I created the void, I created the nothing.
Surely I can go anything I want to?

Is what I would say, if someone said the things you did not say...
