Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

FIRST BETA WEEKEND

I don't know more than this, but check it out:

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/08 … ters-beta/

"Any Tad Williams fans in the audience? Ah, just that guy at the back. Oh well, this is for you, anyway: Otherland, the Tad Williams-directed MMO based on his sci-fi scribblings, is going to enter beta this weekend. It’s closed for now, but you can sign up for a chance to get in on the main site. (Top left!)"

Me neither ... don't have a PC anyway ... kind of regret it the first time since I changed systems ... no time for it at all ...

Massively Multiplayer Online Game

In other words, you'll need an internet connection that works, and also you'll probably need a fairly up to date computer.

It became rather quiet about the game, do you think the same?

Re: FIRST BETA WEEKEND

The FAQ still says this: "The current launch date is aimed for Q4 2012."

I wonder what's taking so long? Beta testing has been open for seven months now.

Unfortunately, the developer RealU closed down :-(. No more details in the official forums until now :-(.

Re: FIRST BETA WEEKEND

Thanks Aza. I found this on the Gamigo forum, posted this month:

Dust wrote:

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately we have to confirm that the rumors are true and RealU, the developer of Otherland, has laid off most of its staff.

RealU is a subsidiary of German publisher dtp, which by itself is currently in insolvency, and gamigo had and has very limited influence on this decision. We are disappointed by this development and very sorry for the development team.

As for the Otherland game: we are still holding the exclusive publishing rights for Europe and North America and we are currently looking into opportunities to finish the title at another location.

Please understand that for legal reasons we are unable to comment further on this matter.

Re: FIRST BETA WEEKEND

So sad. Sounds like it isn't dead, but certainly is not close or even a sure thing at this point.

Yeah. I think the word is 'limbo'.

Or 'comatose'.

Whoa. This looks amazing! I signed up. We'll see what happens.

Check out the forum. Looks like it was written by WikedTribe:

"To keep you updated you find here everything you have to know"

"We rolled "need" on critique. Write it here"

"If you're proud of your clan and want to tell anybody about it – here it's the right place"

Branding?

Re: FIRST BETA WEEKEND

Alright, signed up, but the first Beta closed yesterday and aparently they found a ton of bugs they need to fix before the next one. This is going to be at least a month, from the wording, potentially much longer.
