Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Re: QM - The Pantry

I'm so, so ready for the weekend! No matter how much I tell myself I'll do it, every evening - I just can't go to bed early. Doesn't work. If I manage to get off the couch early, I'll find myself sitting on the bathroom floor a couple of minutes later, doing a Sudoku (which I don't even like).
I wish I didn't have to go to work. But I have to, and continue that garden clean-up, which means another full day with the pruning shears, another sore hand, and dealing with big fat spiders in the shrubbery. And I hate, hate, hate spiders. I hope I can get the most spidery parts done before it gets so warm I have to take off my sweater, so I at least don't have to worry about having them crawl over my bare arms.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Hello Minters,

just wanted to mention that I had my lovely little big daughter Laura on September 13th. She was 4560 gram and 57 cm at birth. She is quite time consuming so I'll probably still not be around here very often.

When she is sleeping I have the following choices:

1. sleep/nap
2. eat/snack
3. house chores
4. me-time (like reading the new Discworld book 'Snuff' or answering emails)

Usually I choose in order as noted above.

And to pamper myself I've ordered a nursing chair to be delivered from the UK. I have an American friend who has one, and it is just sooo comfy. And nursing hasn't been kind on my 'milk dispensers' so I feel I deserve the luxury of such a chair.

Oh, and Happy Autumn everybody! I just love this season. Beautiful colours all around.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Congratulations Nefermiw! And welcome Laura! (One of the names I really like - the brotherbeastie would have been a Laura if he'd been a girl, and I'm so jealous - I like that so much better than my name.)

Re: QM - The Pantry

Also, finally, finally weekend! I have blisters on my hands, bruises on my knees, scratches on my arms, and I've seen more kinds of spiders than I even knew existed here, running around and dangling down much too close to me (oddly I don't mind them as much when I'm busy doing garden work, but still, ew, ew, ew!)... but I also got a lot of praise for doing a good job, and will be earning some extra money. And it's weekend, and for once, I have nothing I have to do, nowhere I have to be.

Congrats, Nefermew! And welcome Laura!

Putting together my niece's cardigan now. I only have a few more hours to finish it. EEK!

Re: QM - The Pantry

Having a wonderful autumn day... finally made it to the flea market again, bought a few books, then to one of my favourite shops for a few flower bulbs, a long walk in the autumn sunshine, and now I'm once again making apple sauce - and I just roasted my first bowlful of chestnuts. I picked up over 2 kg this week, at the tree down by my old school.

Re: QM - The Pantry

The weather here is wonderfully warm and sunny as well!

I was so tired yesterday, I went to bed before 10 PM - on a Saturday! I always try to go early on weeknights, but it never ever works.
Today, I went to a museum for the first time in about 6 years (and the first time I went by myself - I was always either dragged along by my parents, or on a school trip) because they had an exhibition about vegetables, and to the botanical garden. And did some mending and playing-with-houseplants. Oh, and read one and a half books.

Wonderful fall weather - my electric bill is going to be so happy without the AC running!

Another wonderful week to look forward to - clients yelling and dumping on me (including one client who has previously threatened us with bodily harm). Here's hoping they act better than anticipated, but if history is any measure, nope. I'm in for a couple of stressful days.

Another long day. I don't want to get up and do more useful stuff, like doing the dishes. Where is my house elf?

Pleasant day at work today, and now I'm roasting chestnuts instead of cooking dinner. Yum!

Re: QM - The Pantry

Not much of a fan of roasted chestnuts.

While sitting out, eating my lunch today, a gecko jumped down the back of my neck.

Interesting, to say the least.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Hm, I'm getting the hang of this now - today, they're really easy to peel.

That certainly sounds "interesting". No geckos for me, but I showered myself with dirt today. Had to go to the toilet to take off my shirt and bra to get it out. Oh yeah, and I spilled water on myself so I looked like I'd peed my pants.

I was jumping around a bit. I'm quite sure the people inside the restaurant thought I was off my rocker, or somethin'.
