Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Wait... your neighbor is complaining because you closed YOUR curtain? O.o People are crazy!

Had a good weekend, myself, 3 days! Monday was a "holiday" (President's Day, government offices are closed) since most of our customers would not be in their offices, it was optional. Yeah, I don't get paid, but I'm not that busy anyway, and I'd rather be at home not getting paid than in the office bored outta my mind! Saturday/Sunday was laundry, cleaning, and video games. Monday the fiancee and I went out shopping with his mom, walked around the mall, got lunch, just getting out of the apartment!

And I come back to work today, where everyone is EXTREMELY chatty for some reason, and where my boss just decides to do things I normally do and not tell me. Well fine, you can finish it then! Grr. I don't care that she's bored too and wants stuff to do, but freaking tell me, don't just say "Oh well I just checked over everyone's hours and they all look good." .... ummm no kidding, I did that an hour ago, before you were even here. wtf?

fake edit: ahhhh new page!

If you should do what makes you happy, and no one can tell you what makes you happy, then that means no one can tell you what to do!

Yup. This is apparently dreadfully noisy, and makes him jump out of bed, and almost have a heart attack, and he can not go back to sleep. And apparently, 10 PM is a ridiculously late bedtime, and what am I even doing up at that hour?
Idiot.
But he didn't come to complain today. I wouldn't have opened the door anyway.

Page 25. Anyone got an idea for a new Mint?

Well, the good news is my display case #4 arrived today and it is *not* damaged.  Now I'm keeping my fingers cross that our drivers don't dent it during deliver tomorrow.  *crosses fingers*

Re: QM - The Pantry

I work with morons. I just had to do a real life facepalm because of what I just heard. So we have this one especially crazy customer, who just emailed and phone called asking about a credit card charge from a week and a half ago, saying she didn't know what the charge was. Well she originally emailed her sales rep here, who forwarded the email to the lady who does billing today. After the excitement was over, the lady who does billing said, "I guess we don't really know how long [sales rep] had that email!" ... Except you do, since it was a forwarded email, the To:, From:, Subject:, and Date: (including time!!) all appear...

It just amazes me how people can work in an environment where their work is 95% dependent on computers and NOT have basic knowledge about them.

It's also amazing how people are so reluctant to learn new things. So many people seem to be in the mindset of "It worked like this, and now it doesn't, someone else do it for me because now it's different." Or even, "You did something different, now I can't see [whatever], what happened, you fix it back." Just a couple weeks ago we laid off a bunch of temp workers, so I changed their status in the time clock. Well all you have to do to see them again is click a button, uncheck a box, and click "OK". But that was entirely TOO COMPLICATED for my manager, and she wouldn't listen to me when I tried to explain it.

Oh the stupid stories I have... Our new Mint should be "Office Space" so I don't feel so bad telling my doofy work stories :P
