Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Yay to moving!

I has returned! Denmark was nice. The weather didn't really cooperate, but we made do.

What were you doing in Denmark?

Whenever people ask me what to see and do there I can't really come up with something. Maybe you never really appreciate your own country and only notice the nice things when you are a tourist. Of course I haven't lived there since 2004, so maybe I start to qualify as a tourist when going there and I should open my eyes. I just find Copenhagen so dirty after having lived in Germany where they know how to keep the streets and especially the train stations clean. Of course now I live in Sweden and I miss the Danish bicycle paths - here the paths are most often shared by pedestrian and bikes which I find slightly dangerous at times.

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Copenhagen dirty?! Better not come to the Netherlands then. We thought Denmark to be very, very clean! (Yes, including Copenhagen, but maybe we haven't been to the dirty parts.)

What we also noticed were the election posters everywhere and how they seemed to be almost random. After two weeks of traveling through Denmark, we still encountered new faces. And the posters were also about persons, not parties.

We started our journey in Silkeborg (Sejs) where we hiked. Then we went to Stenbjerg on the coast (more hiking), next was Copenhagen (Koge) where we visited quite a few museums, and finally to Ribe (where we tried hiking again). A more detailed report will follow on my blog. (As soon as I've translated what I wrote during the holiday.)

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Well, I lived in Holland for 2,5 years (Leiden and Zoetermeer) and if you don't count the dog poo, that people for some reason never pick up after their dogs, I remember it as fairly clean.

When you write Copenhagen (Koge) does that mean you were actually in Copenhagen or where you just in Køge, which isn't actually Copenhagen? I grew up a little north of Køge and know that Køge is a cozy and fairly clean town, which could explain why you didn't find it to be dirty.

I guess it also depends on where you are in a city. There are always nicer parts and as a tourist you might be looking more at up and noticing buildings in stead of looking down at the dirty street.

The reason for all the posters is that there is a parliamentary election in Denmark on the 15th. In Denmark you can choose to vote on a person or the party. Of course if vote for a person that vote goes to the persons party. I find it really annoying that I'm not allowed to vote for national elections either in Denmark or in Sweden. It's all nice and dandy with the EU, but I feel cheated that my democratic right to vote for a government in a country, that can make laws regarding my citizenship, has been taken away just because I reside in another country. (Oops went on a bit of a rant there.)

Anyway, it sounds like you had a nice trip to Denmark. Nice that you went a bit around the country and saw some nature in stead of just taking photos of the little mermaid and going to Tivoli. :o)

Re: QM - The Neverending well

We stayed at a campsite in Køge, but took the train to Copenhagen to do touristy stuff. We didn't visit the mermaid, as we'd seen her before and weren't impressed. We did however visit Tivoli.

Day 1-3 of my trip have been described on my blog: http://sahi.blogspot.com/ The rest of the days still need translating.

Re: QM - The Neverending well

*rolls into mint*

I have cleaned all the things.... eh... sorry... unpacked all the boxes... at least the ones in the living room and dining room..... And now everything hurts even more than it did before... and my siss is pissing me off.... she just sighs in the dining room while working on her thesis.... she's had months for it and still hasn't finished, just because she didn't actually start writing until two weeks ago..... and then she didn't even actually write.... SHe just keeps making further deadlines.... first it was, eveything needs to be finished before we move... it isn't.... then it was everything needs to be finished today.... But she took more breaks than I did during my box-athon.... Now she's saying that it wouldn't be so bad if she still has to do referencing on Monday (her first working day)... pffffff and she wants my pity and approval all the times.... Gah.....

Rant over now..... it's still such a pretty BE-AU-tiful cottage that I can't be really pissed off.... hehehe

Someone give me a good drink.....

Nice to see you again!

Had a rather good visit with my father, and today I finally went to see the last Harry Potter movie with my best friend. And...
*beats head against wall*
Seriously, what book did those people read? I was always either groaning, laughing helplessly, beating my head against the back of my seat in frustration or hissing, "No, no, no, you do NOT say that!" I mean, I get that they have to make some changes, but they messed up every single scene of the battle, and how did that make the story better? Just adding a lot of "ka-BOOM!" doesn't make a good movie.

Spent the entire day yesterday cleaning up holiday stuff. Doing laundry, cleaning the car, drying the tent, cleaning our boots. Oh, and I started on the translation of my trip report. (Which can be found on my blog, though not all of it yet.)

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Visited the grandparents today, and took what was probably the last chance to swim in the lake - a bit chilly already, but still soooo nice!

It is Monday. Youngest is back and school. The house seems so quiet.

It's the first day of school here as well - the perfect day to lose my fountain pen. The first store I tried was actually sold out.

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Just booked a ticket to Kassel to attend Tad's visit to Göttingen. I always get so nervous when I've just booked such things...

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Finally managed to finish another post about the Italy trip - day 3, on which my friend's saddlebags nearly caught fire - craziest moment of the whole trip!

Re: QM - The Neverending well

I managed to go to bed a little earlier yesterday, and what a difference that makes - I got so much stuff done tonight, not being so tired.

And we need a new Mint - might just do that as well.
