Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Sounds fun! I'd be jealous if I had time to read. ;)
Actually, I don't much feel like reading, even if I had the time. My brain is still stuck on Shadowheart, and doesn't want to leave the characters behind (my usual last-volume syndrome).

I've decided to allow myself a lazy day. Tomorrow is soon enough for cleaning windows and attacking the wallpaper in the living room.

Today is a gray, drippy day. Inside, knitting Christmas prezzies, with a fire going and X-Files on the tv.

Someday will find you.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

My Saturday has mostly been spent shopping for Christmas presents. 4 hours in the cold, surrounded by melting ice and snow. We had to buy presents for 19 people and I think we now only have to think of something for 3 people now. 4 hours well spent, I guess.

Now for some quality time with Shadowheart and a cup of tea. :o)

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I feel kind of like this. First, I feel like I'm so grown-up and responsible, because I have a stepladder and do no longer need to climb onto the kitchen counters to reach the high shelves, and I have spackling paste and a table and towels and other "adult-like" possessions. And go back to my mother's place, determined to get up early the next day, and clean windows, and buy a vacuum cleaner and paint, and stock the kitchen, and rip the wallpaper off the living room walls and go to the Christmas market and do a million other things. And then I find the internet is working, and before I know it, it's 3 AM, and I stumble off to bed, and don't get up again until 1 PM, and can't be bothered to do a single one of these things. Not to mention the state of my room here. It's such a mess that it's a miracle I can even walk from the door to the bed. As it is, every time I open the door, I get hit in the face by a Ravenclaw banner.

Don't worry Magpie.... You are not the only one... I do exactly the same thing... egularly do a reality check and then decide that "from now on I am going to live responsible, eat healthy, go to bed on time and clean my house"!!! And I last about a week..... then I suddenly feel the need for utter procratination and decide I've earned it.... and it never picks up again until I get one of my responsibility moods again... *grin*

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

At least I have taken down that Ravenclaw banner now (which was supposed to hang on the inside of my door, but had come loose on one corner. Actually, all of the banners had come partially loose last night, as if they knew they'd need to be taken down soon.
But my room still looks like a battlefield.

Putting away all the stuff scattered around my room... it never ceases to amuse me that I keep my NaNoWriMo winner certificates between "important" and official things like school reports and my journeywoman certificate.

Still in busy mode, wonder if it'll ever end. :) But I did almost finish my second hat. (And still haven't found time to make pictures.)

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

*drops into Mint*

Wow... think my dad has the feeling I'm lonely... he keeps calling me, and inviting me for walks and such... But with between 40 and 50 hours at work per week.... My weekends are sort of lovely in their solitude (and crammed full with crazy things to do...)

He is seriously getting worse... might be good for him to see someone about this obsession.... He tells me daily to contact my sister (because if I talk to her, it takes some of the tension off him..pfff), he waits for me at work (and with my current overtime that's a lot of waiting) and then drives behind me.... He, in fact, is driving me bonkers... This is driving my relocation urges ever further...

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

That sounds exhausting, Libra!

I wish I hadn't waited until today to go to the medieval Christmas market - now the snow has melted, and everything will be a muddy mess. And I can't be bothered to put on my dress and cloak. Create such a load of dirty laundry just by wearing it for an hour or two? No.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

It is....  and the worst part is that I know what would stop this behaviour.... either me getting married or living together with a bf....  And as I am no where near getting either one of those (and frankly, not even sure whether I want something like it at this stage in my life with everything that's been going on), I'm no where near stopping this...

I mean, he'll call me at work and if I don't pick up, he'll keep calling until I do... Had a meeting couple of days ago, he kept calling, ended up picking up and asking whether it was urgent, he said no and then started blabbering on some topic, had to hang up on him in the end... Seriously, if this continues much longer I'll start disconnecting my phone..... He even calls me on my work-landline... arghh...

Oh.... jealous.... I wanted to go to the Midwinterfest today... but as it's on the other side of the Netherlands and nobody wanted to join, I stay at home... :-(

Yeah, I'm lucky to have one right here in Linz (though it's tiny, so I don't expect to stay long. Especially since I have to go by myself.)

*peeks in*

I only found out that the Midwinterfair was this weekend because I read about it on Twitter.

Yesterday was the TGIOP of Nanowrimo and today is a lovely calm off-day. Hiking through the dunes, doing some laundry, planning our holidays for the coming year, and so on.

So, looking at my holiday plans, how about actually having a moot at your place Magpie? Maybe the last weekend of February? (i.e. just before you start work again) Just a wild idea. I just looked and the plane tickets wouldn't be too expensive...

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

Just finished writing the annual Christmas cards - 18 in total, so it's a good thing my husband wrote half of them. Tomorrow I will start wrapping the 16 Christmas presents we bought yesterday. I still have to think of a present for my husband. Sometimes Christmas seams like a lot of work. I should remember to enjoy the spirit of Chrismas in between all the 'have-to-do's.

Heh, we just found out about it today as well (saw some outdoors advertising). Would actually have been a decent day for it for once, with reasonable weather. Then again, the one time I went to the Midwinterfair I was rather underwhelmed by it.

Sahi and Aan: from what I can say now (not really having any plans for next year yet), either weekend should be fine with me, although the second from last has the slight advantage (to me) of directly following my birthday.
