Man, I'm soo tired! I only arrived at eleven thirty last night. And had to get up at seven this morning. Fortunately I now know where the conference center is, so I can stay in bed longer tomorrow.

Mpf. Not going to melt anything into anything - I'm so fed up with all that stuff cluttering up my drawers, when I never use it anyway. I still have so many things I'd had to buy for arts lessons at school, which we never used at school, and I never used at home either. *grumbles*

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

The power on one of my external harddrives died today. Panic, as it was a backup drive of which I did not have any backups (sometimes the digital age sucks). So I had a computer shop break the silly Seagate plastic cover open with force and bought a docking station and another 2TB drive to be my future "Master" backup drive. It will take days to copy the data from all the externals I have. At least the drive started again so I could save my data (around 300 GB), which I am doing now. I am now intending of making TWO master backups for all my pictures, videos, music and files. And I will only use docking stations in the future. Probably need two of those, so that I can copy from one to another.

Sorry. Computer talk.

Some flower talk for Magpie HERE: My bonsai died. Rest in peace.

Oh Oh... and I bought a new iPod last Sunday (shops open on that day in Taiwan). Silver Classic, 160GB. My old 60GB one was getting too small for all my audio books, music and TV shows. I travel a lot, so I really REALLY need this gadget. Really. To carry all my stuff around the world. (Have I told you the story about "Black Tuesday", the day last year my friend and I got stuck on the airports in Hawaii for the whole day, because of technical problems and delays? And when we finally arrived, our luggage was lost in Honolulu. We only wanted to jump from Big Island to Maui. Without Dan Brown's new book on my iPod I would have gone crazy on that day. The damn airlines stole one day of our holiday in Maui....one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Curse them...)

I know, I sometimes sound like a capitalist. I just love techno-stuff, and as I don't have a car, don't smoke and have no children....and my flowers on the balcony keep dying, there is no use in investing in my herb garden anymore.

EDIT: Oh Oh...forgot. In case you are interested. My Vietnam videos. Only a few scenes cut together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFNUmMJDxUg  http://www.youtube.com/user/pyramidus#p … _Dw_KZh6BE  http://www.youtube.com/user/pyramidus#p … czbhjq_qRg   http://www.youtube.com/user/pyramidus#p … ZPGwQShIMM (My favourite is the Mama Chicken! He.)

That's all. I do not often post here, so I little spammy. Sorry.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I love my audio books; just joined Audible. Have you seen the website booksshouldbefree.com? It's a website for free audio books where the title is in the public domain. Lots of classics.

I recently purchased a Sansa Clip to hold the ones I am currently listening to -- the others are on my computer. I was tempted by the iPod, tho.

Ooh, that would be nice! It seems to me that audiobooks would combine nicely with knitting... I must remember to check that one out someday soon.

Good choice Em. I got my Sansa over a year ago and am still very happy with the tiny thingie.
If your not a total apple lover and simply want a small, simple mp3 player with good sound the sansa is,considering the price for an ipod nano, the better choice.
My Battery is still working fine and I used the player a lot..I mean really really a lot. Last one I got before that one lost battery capacity pretty soon. The Sansa didnt so far...

Yep. Knitting and listening to books is a good combination.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I had a Sansa Lil Monster(the bigger brother of the Clip) and it was nice- until the connection to the headphones crapped out:(
I use now my old Sony Walkman-stick, had it before the Mac and it was a bit of a hassle to get them talk to each other, but it's all good now. Works for me.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I did research into which MP3 player was the best for listening to audiobooks, as this is the purpose for which I purchased it. The Sansa Clip was recommended over-and-over, because you can bookmark more than one book at a time and return to the place you left off.

I'm listenting to "The Eye of the World" right now. Just finished listening to all seven Harry Potter books (the British versions).

Someday will find you.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I don't like audiobooks - I can't concentrate on them. I wish I could - would be nice to be able to listen while I work on my plants and stuff, but I get so distracted by my own thoughts...

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

and it has a mini sd card slot which is a big plus for me.
I´ve got one of the bigger Sansa´s too but since i dindt really use the video/ picture function a lot it was to big for my taste.
Anyway I´m very happy with those players.
What I really dont like about ipods (beside the fact that they are to damn expensive for what you get) is that you are bound to use itunes...
I know a lot of people like itunes but thats not for me. I prefer the simple drag&drop method not being forced to use a programm to change whats on my player.

ok enough advertisment from my side *g*
Good night smarchers

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I have got kind of addicted to audio books. I fall asleep with them a lot, helps me turn of thoughts at night much better than music. I love the sleep function on my iPod, and I use tiny unpowered speakers for that, so I don't have to turn off anything.

I also listen to them a lot while doing any housework. Got all the Harry Potter books, in English and in German, and probably listen to them once a year. Very good for falling asleep, as with them I do not miss out any parts. If I use other books at night, I often have to rewind many times before I catch the whole thing.

iTunes is ok, though not perfect. Apple is definetly to expensive, but I have no Mac and only love the iPod, as I got used to the way it works. Tried other MP3 players too, but was never satisfied. However, the first hard drive on my 60GB one died after two years. Had it replaced, but there is really no guarantee for any gadget to work forever. Look at my Seagate harddrive that nearly died yesterday.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

Bah - there I wrote myself a mile-long shopping list - and then I lost it on the way to the store.
Ah well. Would have needed to go more than once anyway - I  couldn't carry it all at once.

Ahahahaha! No, I didn't lose it - the thing somehow managed to get pushed out of my pocket and up under my sweater - I just discovered it there when my arm brushed against my stomach and I heard paper rustle.

*will go to pick up xavie and Aan in a bit*

Still slightly nervous about having to find my way around the airport by myself - the only times I've been there I was tagging along after my parents or teachers. But I guess I'll be OK. Gotta get over this silly fear of new places.

The weather has finally decided to stop being Winter.
