Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

QM - Magpie's Kitchen

It’s a kitchen – sparkling clean and obviously not much used yet. Boxes are standing on the counters, waiting to be unpacked. There are no chairs yet – paint buckets and cushions will have to do, and a large moving box for a table. Only the window sill is already looking as it always will: so full of plants – with many pots of fresh herbs among them – that you can hardly see out of the window.

There are glasses in one of the boxes, and any drink you could wish for in some of the others, just waiting to be put into the fridge.

A copy of Shadowheart was delivered to my house just a few minutes ago. I did not order it.

Is there a Santa?

ETA: I believe it is from Patrick. He posted this thread a few weeks ago: Win a Copy of Shadowheart. I responded.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

I'm baking bread too today. It's a Danish rye bread. I'm cheating and using a bread mix, since I don't want to keep a sour dough going. I love to bake and consider it a hobby of mine, and I only ever use a store bought mix for rye bread.

Em, you are so lucky. Must be nice to get surprise pressies, even if it is something you won.

Note: I absolutely hate surprises - I like to make plans. But I looove presents, so the love of presents overrule the hate of surprises, hence I do like surprise pressies. ;-)

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

The snow is making my huband leave his bike at home and walk half an hour to work. This means he has to walk for half an hour in the dark back from work in the cold, so I am going to be such a nice wife and meet him half way at the pizzeria so he won't have to walk all the way home alone. (If you read between the lines you will notice that I am getting out of making dinner and I get to eat yummy pizza.)

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

GAH! Only minutes after my previous post there was someone at the door asking me about my car... Some stupid stupid person had broken into it, breaking thr window and stealing my harry potter audiobook... And with the weather as it is, I had to get a new window installed immediately.... so had to leave my comfy home and drive half an hour to sit waiting for 45 at the carglass company....

Now I have aheadache.... prolly from driving in minus 5 without my car window.....

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

Oh, that sounds annoying, Libra!

I painted some walls today. Not my own, though - been earning some money.

And then I finished cleaning my kitchen. Everything is sparkling now, so tomorrow I must go and make a mess of it again by painting the ceiling (yes, the logical course of action would have been to paint first, clean second, but it was so disgusting!

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

Libra: They broke your window, costing you probably way too much money, for a Harry Potter Audiobook that costs.. what.. $20? Considerably less than a window, for sure. :( I never keep anything worth more than a few bucks in my car for a prolonged period / overnight. At least not where it's visible.

Magpie: Hooray for clean kitchen! Hopefully the previous tenants didn't receive their security deposit for leaving such a mess behind :\ That's just awful and rude.
As far as the couch goes, we just got really, really lucky. We spent a couple days after we initially found it (they placed a 7 day hold on it) looking around other furniture stores and had the same success you did. Everything reasonably priced wasn't comfy or looked atrocious, and everything comfy was ridiculously expensive and wayyyyy more out of our budget. It basically came down to, do we spend a little extra and get something we like and get it now, or try and save a bit more and risk not getting what we really wanted because it's out of stock.

Weather-wise, I feel totally jipped. The Buffalo area got it's first snow storm of the season a few days ago, and I live within the 6 square mile area that got less than an inch of snow. So. Annoying. I guess I'll have to wait til the next snow storm to see what it's like!

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

That's annoying.

Last time my car was broken into they ripped off the sun visor, broke the indicator lever and the headlight lever and removed the headrests and threw them about twenty metres away.

I don't know who did it but I don't like them.

People who break into other peoples cars suck.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

Genesis, I don't get it... what is so wonderful about telephones here in Sweden?
I love furry animals, and I was so hoping to see some squirrels again after having lived in a squirrel-less part of Holland, but it seems that I might be living in a squirrel-les part os Sweden - go figure.

This reminds me of a funny story about how I told some people in Germany that we had small unicorns running around in the garden next door. I misspronounced Eichhörnchen and said Einhörnchen. They looked at me funny, but luckily my husband had noticed my mistake and corrected it so the nice Germans didn't think I was totally crazy.

Libra, sorry to hear about your car. It's sad that some people hold no respect for the property of others.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

It's snowing like mad today. I was planning to go buy a new round knitting needle (I want to knit a hat to match that last scarf I made) and some patterns for clothes, but now I don't think I will. Maybe I'll go and buy them online...

I honestly have no idea but at the start of Monty Python and the Holy Grail the subtitles tell some ridiculous story about moose and a famous oslo dentist who was an actor and all sorts of silly stuff like that.

Here is a link to the opening credits of the movie on youtube.

Re: QM - Magpie's Kitchen

Snowing like crazy and I still have to get one present.... dah.... don't really fancy going out by car now, but there's no other way.... trying to not procrastinate, but it's such a good day to do it...

Have paranoia attacks about my car now... cause my dad mentionned some people he know were broken into several times, just for fun... So I'm kind of checking the car out every so often... hehehehe.... hopefully the wannabe thieves don't want to go out in this weather as well.....

What I think happened is that they wanted to steal the radio, but as mine is integrated in my car (which they prolly didn't notice until they were inside), it's useless to steal....  so they just took something....

I was so incredibly mad yesterday.... bit better today.... thanks for all the support!

Aahh, now I understand. Well, actually I still don't get it, but I now know you were quoting. :-)

I guess Ericsson is a rather big company associated with phones, so there is a connection between phones and Sweden after all.

I'm also on a McCaffrey fan site and this weekend is the annual McCaffrey Quest. It's a hundred questions and you get the weekend to answer them and submit in Word or in the body of an email. This morning of all mornings my trial version of Word decided to stop working, so I spent 2 hours trying to get the trial vesion for Office 2010 installed on my computer. I finally succeded, but I was not in a good mood afterwards.

You could get Open Office instead, as it's completely free. :)

So far my hat seems to be working out fine. Only got about an inch or maybe two, but still...
