*drops into mint* Feeling a little low today... no particular reason....
"If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend you life completely wasting your time. You'll be doing things you don't like doing in order to go on living, that is, to go on doing things you don't like doing... which is stupid." ~ Alan Watts

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
G'Maen Mint!
I've been a bit more absent lately, due to Christmas-Crazyness in the shop and not-wanting-to-go-online during the weekend(i sleep most of the time anyway, and spend the rest of precious free time with bf and knitting). we have an event going on tonight(after work hours- Lock-In for the people from the United Nations-office ) and friday(Christmas stories and poems for the lil' ones and Punch(the drink, made by me) and mince pies and cookies and book buying for the grown ups. the kids get cookies, too, if they're good), plus the shop is really busy during the day. which is totally awesome and what we need, but we're also understaffed and it shows. well, we're doing what we can. and it's only a little over two weeks to go! hope to see more of y'all then:)

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
I'm still surrounded by a pile of stuff that needs doing, but after another night spent talking to my best friend, and getting up early-ish because she had to go to work (this is the second night this week she's stayed here) I guess not much will get done.

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
Feeling slightly frustrated because I can't figure out if I qualify for one of those discount passes for bus/libraries/museums/other public stuff. The info on my town government's website about it is just too complicated. I guess I'll just have to try.

*hellos the Mint*
I've been busily knitting. Socks are coming along nicely; however, I just knitted the heel flap last night, and will be turning the heel tonight. We'll see how it goes.
I did get some really purty yarn for a couple more pair of socks yesterday.
Someday will find you.

I'm on my third sock. And so busy knitting that I don't really get anything else done. *tackles the scraps of paper spread over the desk*

You have any hints about turning heels and knitting the gusset, Magpie? This is the first sock I've knitted.

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
Heh. I could probably show it to you if you were here, but whether I can explain it... The way my gran taught me, after finishing the heel flap, you decrease each row by two stitches, knitting the fifth and sixth stitch from the middle of the heel flap together on each side (I'm not sure I'm making much sense, my knitting terminology isn't good even in German ;) ). (The actual numbers of stitches you count from the middle also depends on how thick the yarn is, and the size of the sock, but gran and me usually have eight stitches between the decreases..) Keep doing that until you're down to to ten stitches, then pick up stitches along the edge of the heel until you're back to the original number, and return to knitting rounds.
Actually, I could try to take pictures - I'm working on the heel right now, too. Not sure my pictures would make much more sense, though.

No worries, Magpie. There's lots of info on the Web - I was just looking for hints that aren't in the book!

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
After sorting through all the paper on my desk and discovering I've already spent way too much money this month already (before I've even bought Christmas presents), I'm now working on my Christmas cards ideas.

Finished my third sock, and the book I've been reading. So I suppose I can go to bed now.

And of course, I'm still not in bed... and the cat is falling asleep on my lap.

I turned the heel! And it worked perfectly. I'm so surprised.
The sock is turning out better than I iimagined.

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
Hmpf. Once again, I'm seriously considering giving up reading newspapers. OK, I probably won't really - I need my paper with my breakfast - but it makes me so angry so often.

You should read the papers 'round here. All they can talk about is Tiger Woods.

Re: QM - The North Pole (A Ghost of Christmas Past)
We get quite enough of that here (probably not as much as you do, though). I skip those pages on principle. If I happen to read a headline, all I can think is, "and who f***ing cares?" Seriously, I don't understand the people who do care. But what really makes me want to ball up the whole paper and throw it at the wall is, right now, minarets and gay marriage. Though I suppose I shouldn't blame the newspaper but the politicians.
