Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

QM - The Pine Forest

The ground is nice and soft to sleep on, not to mention warm. Fog clings to the trees in the morning and dappled sunlight trickles down from the canopy in the day. At night the air is still and fresh and the stars are bright in all directions.

No traffic, no houses, no mobile phones. No trace of the human condition at all really. Well, except for the bar over yonder. I recommend the James Squires amber ale. ;)

*pulls a pint*

Cheers!

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

[Directors Commentary]

This mint was inspired by a small pine plantation at majura which was really really nice to sleep in after marching, crawling and sleeping around in the rocky as hell, windswept, cold and utterly miserable hills that surround it!

Pine forests are *awesome!*

I think dancing might actually be fun. If I knew how.

I really should go and get some stuff done. Like getting a new bus pass, getting the bike fixed... I'll probably end up just wandering the garden store, though.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

So I bought a month ticket for the bus (decided a year ticket would be stupid after all, since I don't know how much longer I'll be living here), a new battery charger and some bread. And plants. I'm so impossible.

Oh, yes - and two books on houseplants. Which will hopefully be better than the two (three?) I have already.

Welcome, Shaddy!

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

I do not want to go to work tomorrow.
It means I have to take off my Castlefest bracelet (yes, I know everyone else was glad to be rid of it) and that makes me sad.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

*drops in and curls up under nearest tree*

work kinda sucks right now. everybody seems unhappy, while there's loads and loads of work to do. the shelves are filling up, but nobody seems to appreciate it. might have something to do with Indian Boss coming tomorrow, who was rather mad last time he was here- there was one scrap-paper on the floor, ZOMG! and who is rather demanding. while his assistant in Mumbai fails to see the need of paying the suppliers we get customer-orders from. gnah.

for me, unpacking a whole box full of Discworld-books , and the guy who bought Fantasy books worth €100 made my day today. i'm just darn tired all the time, from unpacking and tagging and putting away books. with all the other crap i'm willing to put up with, as i see all troubles there are as temporary that can be dealt with.

sorry for ranting in this lovely pine forest, me dear friends..

me go sleep pretty soon, so i can show off my Happy Face tomorrow

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

Not worries, Sisterdew. *huggles* There's always trials and tribulations at the workplace, no matter how much you love your job.

Sometimes management doesn't seem to make much sense, do they? They refuse to hire a clerk to help with the filing, stuffing envelopes, etc., but are more than willing to pay me time-and-a-half to do it! They could hire three clerks for the rate they're paying me.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I do like the extra $$.

*bows at sisterdew*

Apologied sister. I feel you though. Indian bosses seem extreme though. They can be really nice or really moody. I will thus hold thumbs for you!

On the topic of work, I'll probably spend my day squinting at the screen while I try rewrite all of php fusion's English locale files in Afrikaans. Luckily I work from home, so my socks are my shoes and my cat can sit next to my laptop and chase the reflection of the sun off my watch.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

I forgot to call the OUFG to ask her if the new boss turned up, and if he did, what he's like. Damn. I don't like going to work not knowing all there is to know about new people even if they're just apprentices, and a new boss is much worse.
And I really hope I feel better tomorrow.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest

Have taken my broken laptop (hinges are broken and keyboard is all wonky -- you really have to mash some of the keys hard to get them to work) and hooked it up to peripherals that were working (monitor and keyboard). Now, I have a complete working system. Yay! I thought about getting the laptop fixed, but it is old and I would rather put the $$ towards a new laptop.

In the meantime, this will work jest fine, thank you very much!

Someday will find you.

That's the problem with my job, much as I like it - the bracelet will get disgustingly dirty. But I'm actually keeping it on today to see how easily the dirt comes out again. If I can get it clean again without too much trouble, I might just leave it on.
Maybe having it put round an ankle would not have been such a bad idea - but then, nobody (including me) would see it there.

*glares at stomach again*
