Hmmm... podcasts I listen to...

Webcomics Weekly - A roundtable discussion with four of the most prominent webcomic creators today (Scott Kurtz, Brad Guigar, Dave Kellett, and Kris Straub).  I'd probably listen to it even if I wasn't into webcomics, mainly because the guys are so genial and funny.

Between the Ropes - Two hour podcasts that replay a radio program that's aired in Florida.  It's wrestling and mixed martial arts news, so I have no idea if anyone here would be interested in that.

Grammar Girl - very, very useful tips on several questions about the proper grammatical usage.

ESPN: Pardon the Interruption - Sprts stuff.  I mainly listen to it because I love the interplay between Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser.

And I'm listening to them on my iPod, usually.

So I'm thinking about writing and producing an audio book.  Full voice acting, the whole works. 

It's funny because it seems like all the other people doing this are guest voices in eachother's works.  Is it really one small community, or am I just looking at this thing from one little corner of it?  So far, I can't tell. 

Quality varies, but they sure are all passionate about their work.

Episode 13 is now up and 14 is recorded (in post production).

Meanwhile I'm at about 10k words into the first draft of my audiobook project.  Been playing with audacity outside of my podcasting to try to get some of the procedural stuff down.  It's been a lot of fun.

Just a quick update.  Haven't been here much lately.  I guess Twitter manages to sate most of my social urges (helps that some TW folk are there too).

I'm still doing the podcast.  16 shows are up.  18 are recorded.  Production takes time, and we do this for fun, so things like weddings (yay!) and bike accidents (ugh) can cause delays.  We average 2 per month, and they're still a ton of fun to do.

I'm also plugging away at the novel I mentioned back in (gasp) January.  Finding writing moments, usually in the last half hour before sleeping, I've managed over 30k words of rough draft over 6-7 months.  I thought 90k could be done by the summer.  Boy was I wrong!  But when you're doing this stuff as a hobby, you can't let it become a source of stress.  It will be done when it is done.  Nothing more to it.  In the meantime, I've been playing around with the audiodrama/audiobook production end of it.  That's fun, too, in its own way.  Sound effects and music are new adventures for me, but I'm muddling through.  Sometimes I'm thrilled with what sounds you can find through Creative Commons.  Sometimes I find it frustrating.

To those who might enjoy learning about this stuff, I just launched a new podcast about writing/producing full cast audio books.  There is an emphasis on creative commons.

It'll be about writing, editing, casting, directing, sound engineering, audio effects, music, and just about anything else we can think of.  It's an educational podcast, and will have various guests to teach us what they know.

I figure that considering a bunch of us on these boards played around with recording that Quinnitan chapter a while back just for kicks, some might still be around who will be tickled to know I do this stuff as a pretty sophisticated hobby now.  I produce full cast short stories for a really cool podcast called The Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine (http://www.dunesteef.com), and will eventually do the full novel I'm currently writing.  It's all free.  If anyone has a good enough mic and an interest, I'm always looking for people to volunteer voices.  Just let me know you're interested.

If anyone is interested in some free entertainment, my most recent audio production is out, Plague Birds by Jason Sanford.  It's a really good story, almost an hour long, and I was able to put together a stellar cast for this one.
